Our History

North Paw Animal Rescue Society was established in 2022, building on the foundation laid by Takashi’s Animal Rescue, which was founded in 2016 by Laura Richter. After years of serving the community, Takashi’s Animal Rescue was forced to close its doors in 2021 due to a lack of funding, leaving the Northern Rockies without a local animal rescue.

Determined to ensure animals in need would once again have a safe place to go, Lori Schoroth worked alongside Laura Richter, Layne Tudor, and the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality (NRRM) to identify what was needed to reopen an animal rescue. Through this collaboration, a service agreement and funding partnership with the NRRM were established, leading to the founding of North Paw Animal Rescue Society.

What started as a vision to fill a critical gap in the community has grown into a dedicated organization supported by an incredible team of volunteers and a passionate Board of Directors. Together, they devote countless hours caring for the animals at our rescue facility, ensuring every animal receives the compassion, medical care, and second chance they deserve.

Since opening in 2022, North Paw Animal Rescue has welcomed hundreds of animals into our care. Each one has been given safety, medical attention, love, and the opportunity to find a forever home. While our journey began with a simple goal of helping animals in need, it has become a community effort built on compassion, dedication, and the belief that every animal deserves a chance at a better life.

As we continue to grow, our commitment remains the same: to protect and advocate for animals in need while strengthening the bond between people and their pets throughout our community.
